Win One of Five Buicks

Written by

Dear Miracle Worker,

If it weren’t for highway billboards I would never know about some really amazing opportunities. Like this one: “The FireKeepers Casino is giving away one Buick every week to a lucky winner!!!”

I’m not a big gambler. I mean, I’ve gone to casinos before. And I’ve taken trips to Las Vegas. But the most I’ve ever done is play slot machines with a roll of nickels. I always lose it all. Even when I win some money, after a while it’s all gone, and then I’m done.

So I don’t have to deal with the gamblers' compulsion. Or do I? I have plenty of other compulsions that encourage me to spend money. For example, I love decorating my house. I seem to always be “doing something” in an effort to “improve it.” Recently I felt compelled to “improve” my garage. It has been perfectly serviceable for 30 years. Now it looks like I’m parking in a living room. It’s so nice I could take a cup of coffee and sit in there and relax.

“Seek and do not find,” (CoA.Tx.12.VI.1.4) is the outcome, says the Course, when we believe in the form and do not recognize the content. Truth is, by fixing up my garage I’m really just trying to improve the feeling I have when I’m in my house. And isn’t that the same thing a gambler is doing? Trying to improve the feeling they have at any given time? Seeking and trying to find peace in the form and not the content?

And isn’t that what we are all doing, all the time? Gambling in our own FireKeepers Casino, hoping to win one of five Buicks.

There is no doubt that forgiveness is a major foundational tenet of ACIM. Forgiveness and healing itself are equated. "That forgiveness is healing needs to be understood if the teacher of God is to make progress." (OrEd.Mn.22.3) Assuming we all want to be healed (we all do, don’t we?) then we should all me more than willing to forgive absolutely. However my observation is that most are not. Most only give lip serve to forgiveness, or they forgive the easy stuff holding what ACIM calls many "scraps of meanness” unforgiven. "You retain thousands of little scraps of meanness which prevent the Holy One from entering." (OrEd.Tx.4.52) Sickness will then have a “nutritious” fuel source to again manifest and grow from. When do we do this? Why do we do this? This is what Rev. Tony will explore. 26 min. SUBSCRIBE & SHARE

Thank God!

Written by

Dear Miracle Worker,

We always have Holy Spirit’s help. “Thank God!” Not a euphemism. Literally. I have to laugh at my life often, as I go from one challenge to the next. Sometimes the best thought I can have is, “How is Holy Spirit going to handle this one?” Answer: “Miraculously!”

One of the CMC Ministers is approaching the end of her body’s life. I am her power of attorney. Right now we are working on multiple issues: getting her from hospital to home on hospice, getting round the clock home care, making sure all legal things are handled, etc. It would be overwhelming if Holy Spirit were not in charge. “Thank God!”

My tub and shower started leaking a couple of week’s ago. There was the quick fix with duct tape. You can use that stuff to fix almost anything! (For many years I thought it was “duck tape” and always wondered how it got that name. Why would we ever have to tape a duck?!?! Lol) Of course eventually the leak started coming through the duct tape – plumber time! Arranging for a plumber. Being here at home to meet the plumber, … Hey, doesn’t the universe know I’m already really busy?!?! Holy Spirit is in charge. “Thank God!”

In December my office assistant quit unexpectedly. A tremendous amount of work fell back to me – again. The financial situation warranted a wait and see perspective. How will all the work get done? Holy Spirit is in charge. “Thank God!”

"He is in charge by my request. And He will hear and answer me because He speaks for God, my Father, and His holy Son." (OrEd.WkBk.361.1)

I do my best to follow guidance given, and I watch the miracles unfold. The beauty of it all is staggering sometimes. We are all blessed. “Thank God!”

This Sunday, July 10th, join us at the CMC Zoom Service for a special talk about relationships in Love. Our speaker, Rev. Paula Carpe, will share key steps that unlock the doors to the dance floor of life, for your authentic "Dance of Love." First, find out what steps she took to manifest her love relationship after many years of living happily single. Next, discover the spiritual principles, practical practices, and specific Course lessons that helped her before, during, and continuing daily on this journey of Love. Finally, find out how you too can choose the "Dance of Love" and what it takes to keep it going and growing forward in Love, in peace, joy, and harmony. Rev. Paula understands you may have experienced a past love that didn’t turn out in a good way, or for whatever reason, it didn’t last. She has also experienced her share of past heartbreak. That experience might have left a memory you believe, and fear, will repeat itself. Rev. Paula will share ways to recognize any fear arising from the past, in the world of illusions, seemingly holding you back from experiencing a new love or getting in the way of forward movement in an existing love relationship. Learn how to recognize, release, and let go of that past belief, get out of your own way, choose a new possibility for Love, and in so doing, clear the dance floor of life for your next "Dance of Love"! It may not seem easy, but it is simple when you listen to the Divine Guidance of the Holy Spirit's quiet but always present Voice. That Voice is always speaking to us! May your next "Dance of Love" in peace, joy, and harmony begin now! 21 min. SUBSCRIBE & SHARE

This weekend is the July 4th weekend when Americans celebrate the founding of our nation based on the principles delineated in the Declaration of Independence of, "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Freedom has always been an essential value to Americans and it is widely debated about what it actually means. The assertion of these "unalienable rights" does not mean we will experience true freedom, which entails release from the ego’s trio of terror known as: sin, guilt, and fear. My talk will center on how sometimes the assertion of our “rights” can lead us down the wrong path and another choice for true freedom would keep us in our right mind. 30 min. SUBSCRIBE & SHARE

What's Wrong with My "Rights"?

Written by

Dear Miracle Worker,

“Forgiveness is the only sane response. It keeps your rights from being sacrificed.” (OrEd.Tx.30.71)

I live near the beautiful and popular Dolores Park, in San Francisco. On occasion, it is also a place for political demonstrations and speeches which is why I also refer to it as the “people’s park.” Recently, I was nearby and I could hear someone giving a political speech. They were impassioned and angry. I couldn’t make out his argument but his attitude turned me off. It started me thinking about how I assert my “rights.”

I realized that when I assert my “rights” in relationships that I need the Holy Spirit. I recently was bothered by a friend being over an hour late for a planned social event. I realized it and tried to be conscious and pray about the situation. When he finally arrived, I was not overly warm but neither was I angry. I was working on it. Using forgiveness, I tried to let it go. We did talk later about it and he told me some health issues had come up for him. I’m glad that I was able to be neutral and not make a big deal about it. If I had gotten into how his tardiness had violated my right to be on time then my peace and our relationship would have suffered.

We do want to freely express ourselves in this dream of a life and speak out when we perceive a wrong done to us or others. A Course in Miracles is challenging us to come from forgiveness. “I am the light of the world.” (OrEd.WkBk.61) Let all the world see your light in your righteousness.

Between 1948 and 1975 American newspaper readers were treated daily to a comic strip named Pogo, written and drawn by Walt Kelly. In our digital age we’ve forgotten how important newspapers were, and how when we had them in our hands we inevitably turned to the back to open “the funnies,” or the comic pages. Many comics frequently found ways to make political, and satirical comments in the midst of their cartoons. This was especially true of Pogo who was an opossum who lived with his animal friends in the Okefenokee Swamp (a huge swamp spanning the Georgia / Florida border). Arguably Pogo’s most famous meme was, “We have met the enemy and he is us” which was Pogo’s way of saying in 1970 and 1971 that we had only ourselves to blame for environmental pollution. This meme kept going through my mind recently as I watched the world switch from one external enemy threat to the next: Covid19, Russian Ukraine war, record high gasoline prices, current and coming food shortages, record high inflation, etc. As different people and groups scramble to point the finger of blame at different people and groups, this teaching from ACIM kept cycling through my mind, "The secret of salvation is but this: that you are doing this unto yourself. No matter what the form of the attack, this still is true." (OrEd.Tx.27.86) In other words, the same thing Pogo made famous over 50 years ago is echoed in ACIM, and can be applied to all the current problems of the world. 26 min. SUBSCRIBE & SHARE

The Wisdom in Super Glue

Written by

Dear Miracle Worker,

The other day I used Super Glue to fix something – and it didn’t go well. The pieces were small, the glue is runny, and I was in a hurry. Too soon I realized a piece I glued first was preventing others from lining up. Worse, my fingers were stuck together.

Getting Super Glue on your fingers is usually no big deal. But this was next level. My thumb and forefinger were stuck together in a permanent a-ok sign. I tried pulling them apart, but that was going to hurt – a lot! I googled it. Soap and warm water? Nope. Margarine or olive oil? Nope. And then I saw it! My big, sharp kitchen knife. You know when you use a knife to cut through the clear tape on a package? That was my idea.

Carefully I pulled my fingers apart and then really, really gently started sawing between them with the big knife – half expecting to cut off my finger tip. But I didn’t!! It worked!! My fingers were free!

What does that have to do with the Course? A friend said you can go to the Course with any problem, open it to any page and find something right on point. And right after the glue episode I noticed how many times we are told to go slowly in our practice. "The world trains for reliance on one's judgment as the criterion for maturity and strength. Our curriculum trains for the relinquishment of judgment as the necessary condition of salvation." (OrEd.Mn.9.2)

My big hurry didn’t fix what was broken. My rush to start gluing was a rush to judgment without pausing for guidance. And my glued fingers were like the mess that results. Who knew there could be so much wisdom in Super Glue?

06.19.22 "Mass Formation"

Written by

(Click on "Read more..." for larger player)

The idea that a powerful psychosis can capture the minds of a mass of society is called “mass formation,” or sometimes (inaccurately) “mass formation psychosis.” When allowed to proceed, mass formation causes people to do crazy, destructive, and violent things that are obviously not in their own interests. This has gone on repeatedly in our world with Nazi Germany always being a prime example of the dire consequences that can happen if mass formation is not effectively stopped. While learning about this I (Rev. Tony) obviously saw that this is the condition that almost all are under in regards to the physical world and it being inhabited by seemingly separate people. It is a mass formation of a colossal scale. "This is an insane world, and do not underestimate the actual extent of its insanity. There is no area of your perception that it has not touched." (OrEd.Tx.13.50) It causes us to do crazy things, destructive things, and violent things which are not in our best interests – like sickness, death, and war for example. Let’s explore mass formation and how we can apply this theory – and more importantly – it’s solution to the world illusion. 32 min. SUBSCRIBE & SHARE

What the Heck?!

Written by

Dear Miracle Worker,

ACIM is so easy that there are times I simply refuse to do it. Refusing Spirit’s guidance is so ignorant and so insane that shame and guilt keeps me from returning. I have to admit that I still want “my way” in the dream. That’s what causes my insane decision for more insanity. But Spirit is never completely shut out. I’m still receiving guidance! It’s just quieter. That means I didn’t really choose insanity.

“Let Him be judge of what you are, for He has certainty in which there is no doubt …. Let Him be judge as well of everything that seems to happen to you in this world. … Let Him evaluate each thought that comes to mind, remove the elements of dreams, and give them back to you as clean ideas that do not contradict the Will of God.” (OrEd.WkBk.151.8.10.13)

Wait. What?! You mean that’s all I have to do? Just be willing? Just be willing to see things differently? Just be willing to hear the guidance? Just be willing to hear the Voice for God? What the heck! I forgot! I completely forgot! I’ve been rolling around in my ego garbage thinking there was more to do in order to return to God! There’s a part in the Course that says we’re apt to be personally insulted that we are not asked to do more. Hilarious when you really think about it! To do more is to interfere!

The Course says how to do it, “And we lift our hearts in true humility.” (OrEd.WkBk.152.10) Another part of the Course says to forget everything including this Course and come empty handed unto God. Easy! We can all do this. Let’s not let our mesmerizing stories stop or delay us. No shame and no guilt need stay with us anymore.
